]]>Selge Ancient City
October 19, 2021
Selge ; After passing the Köprülü stream on the Antalya-Manavgat highway, TAĞIL is 55 km northwards from the Beşkonak road junction. On the southern slopes of the Taurus Mountains, near Köprüçayı, 950 m from the sea. Selge, built at a high altitude, is an ancient Pisidian Mountain City. You can reach Selge via a steep and winding 12-13 km road after the Köprülü Canyon. The road to Selge passes through Köprülü Canyon, which is very rich in natural beauty.
On the road; There are carved rocks that resemble the fairy chimneys in Ürgüp and Göreme and cover the entire mountain slope. The rocks formed by the erosion of the karst structure are called “Man Rocks” or “Devil Rocks” in the region.
It is thought that Selge was founded by Kalehes. The city, which was a part of Pisidia, was later included within the borders of Pamphylia. The city remained under Lydian, Persian, Alexander and Roman rule respectively. Ruins in the city; The theater in the north with 5 doors and 45 steps is the most important and best preserved monument. To the south of the theater is the Stadium and Gymnasium, and to the west is the Ionic temple whose ceiling is decorated with an eagle motif.
There is a fountain and agora in the south of the stadium. There are Artemis and Zeus monuments and a Necropolis to the north of the walls extending in the southwest of the city. There are water cisterns to the west of these temples, and sarcophagi and ornate tomb monuments to the north. The main entrance gate of the city is also located in this section. To the north of the walls, there are ruins of two temples on the hill, one dedicated to Zeus and the other to Artemis.
Market place (agora), monumental fountain building, grave area (necropolis) and Byzantine church are the other ruins in Selge. Today, there is still a village called Altınkaya (Zerk) among the ruins of this ancient city.
At approximately the 35th km of the SillonAntalya – Alanya highway, turn north and 8 km. Then Sillyon is reached. The city was built on a flat plain, on an elliptical plateau standing above the plain like a table. It has a position that completely dominates the environment. The field of view extends to the Mediterranean. Founded in B.C. IV. century.
Just as it lived through the Hellenic, Roman and Byzantine periods, it was also used during the Seljuk period and was further enriched with new buildings. Stadium, Gymnasium, Towers, Seljuk Mosque, Theater and sports facilities, the stage part of which was completely lost due to the collapse of the rocks, are some of the interesting structures.

]]>Iasos Ancient City Milas Travel Guide
April 4, 2022
28 km from Milas. It was built on a peninsula surrounded by the sea on three sides in Kıyıkışlacık Village. Iasos, located on the opposite shore of Güllük in Mandalya Bay, is a small settlement established on and around the peninsula where Kıyıkışlacık (Asınkurin) village is located. According to legend, Iasos, founded by communities coming from Argos during the Milen period, was previously an island.
The oldest settlement in the city, which became a peninsula as alluviums filled in over time, dates back to B.C. It has been determined that it dates back to the end of the 3rd millennium. Important buildings of the ancient city are located on this peninsula. The great wall, aqueducts, tombs and the structure called the fish market are located outside the city walls.
The people of Iasos, who were engaged in fishing and trade years ago because there was little agricultural land, continue their old traditions today. However, tourism, real estate and farming and fishing have now been added to the above mentioned fishing and trade.
Iassos, where transportation has become easier with the completion of Güllük airport, looks like an open-air museum with its historical features and a fish paradise with its fish farms. The most important feature of Iassos, which also has wetlands fed by the tributary of the Menderes River, is that it has a protected “Bird Sanctuary” within its borders.
The visitors of the Güllük reeds and bird sanctuary in Iasos include coots, shepherds, mallards, pelicans and herons; It attracts hundreds of local and foreign tourists to the region. In addition to a quiet and peaceful holiday, Kıyıkışlacık beach also offers spearfishing opportunities to its enthusiasts.
Iasos, which is also one of the most important yacht stops in the Aegean, is considered the biggest rival of Bodrum and Güllük regions as it is a holiday destination that can be reached both by land and sea. Both Iassos and Zeytinli are building rapidly. 2000 residences have been completed in the rapidly developing sites in the charming and historical residential area that combines all this beauty. Some of them are under construction.
Some buildings look abandoned. 40% of the finished buildings were filled by summer residents. Housing prices vary between 80-150 billion as of July 2007.

]]>They develop on the shallow bottom of warm seas, in waters saturated with Calcium Carbonate, and in the turbulent zone near the coast. They are in the form of shells wrapped in layers like a hailstone. Each membrane-thin shell is formed by the arrangement of many needle-like calcite (aragonite) crystals side by side.
Carbonate precipitation occurs at the bottom when carbon dioxide, which is dissolved in calcium bicarbonate fresh groundwater and plays a role in dissolving limestone, turns into gas during wave turbulence and leaves the environment. Aragonite crystals, which develop in the form of needles in water, are wrapped around the sand grain. Frictions turn these substances into a polished state.
This is how these wonderfully beautiful tiny marbles, which do not resemble sand, which is the greatest feature of Sedir Island, are formed. This exquisite formation, which until ten years ago reached the entire coast and even the ancient settlement inside, can only be seen in the sea today. Unfortunately, that white foamy beach has turned into soil today.
It is thought that the word Kedrai comes from the Luwian language. Most likely, it changed to Kedrai or Kadrai in the Hellenic language, meaning “the city of the people of Kadra”. Information about the history and foundation of this city, whose people were described by Xenephon as “half Greek and half Barbarian”, is limited.
Hekataios of Miletos mentions the settlement here in the 6th century BC. The city joined the Carian Union in 404-428 BC, then Attica joined the Delian League and paid annual dues of 3000 drachmas. In 439, this dues decreased to 2000. In the Athens-Sparta war in 405-406 BC, Xenophon besieged the Spartan commander Lysandros Kedrai and captured the city, which sided with the Athenians. He sold his people in the slave market to punish them.
After this incident, Kedrai could never regain its former glory.
During the time of Xenephon, there were also some Carians among the old inhabitants of the city. The city came under the rule of Rhodes in the 2nd century BC, which caused a change in religious belief. In the II-I century BC, two important cults, Apollo Pythios and Apollo Kedrieus, were led by the same priest. After 170 BC, an important person from the Rhodes peraia administered two cults at the same time.
Kedrai, under Roman rule, also gave a rank of honor to Emperor Vespasian as an expression of their gratitude.
The city walls, Temple of Apollo, Theater, Agora and necropolis area have survived from Kedrai to the present day. Among these, the city walls surround almost the entire coast, starting from the east of the island. The rectangular prism-shaped city walls are in very good condition. The walls were reinforced with square planned bastions.
Among these, a monumental bastion reflecting the most beautiful workmanship of the Hellenistic period, sitting on a four-tiered base on the south side of the island, stands out from the others with its careful workmanship. Not all of the walls were built in the same period.
The temple of Apollo, on a platform supported by terrace walls in the east of the city, is in the Doric style. It is understood from the foundation ruins that have survived to the present day in good condition and the architectural pieces scattered around. This temple is located in the middle of a sacred area surrounded by a perimeter wall. A number of pedestals can be seen next to the thresholds and corners of the entrance doors of this sacred area. The inscriptions have been so damaged that they cannot be read.
Traces of three cylindrical altars can be seen, two of which have garlands on them and one of which has a snake relief. According to mythology, the snake is an animal related to Apollo. Based on this, it can be said that this temple was dedicated to Apollo Kadrieus (Apollon Pythos). During the early Byzantine period, a church on the basilica plan was built over the temple.
We see pieces containing the Jesus monogram and a cross from this period.
There is a theater on the slope in the east of the island, which has survived to the present day. Limestone was used in this building, as in the others. The cavea section and seating levels are in very good condition. Its plan is shaped like a horseshoe, which is considerably larger than a semicircle. What is striking here is that it is quite large for a small city. From this we can assume that a large number of spectators from the surrounding area come to the plays held here from time to time.
The non-symmetrical parados walls were made with very careful workmanship. Skene, on the other hand, remained completely underground.
It is possible that the Agora was on the beach; Because here you can find pieces such as stiles and Ionic style column bases processed with good stone workmanship. There is also a B.C. monument built here with careful workmanship. There is also a wall fragment that may date back to the 4th century.
The city’s necropolis is on the mainland opposite the island. The vast majority of these are sarcophagi. In addition, pits and burial chambers are also seen.
]]>The ancient city of Herakleia is located within the borders of Vakıf Village, Tavas district of Denizli province. Today, there is a village settlement on a part of the ancient city. The city is in the area where Vakıf Village is located at the foot of the Salbacos (Babadag) mountain range at the north-eastern end of the Tabae (Davaz) Plain. The administrative area of the ancient city was bordered by the small Timelos river, adjacent to Aphrodisias. Therefore, the river god of both Aphrodisias and Heracleia is Timelos. This god is depicted on the Roman Empire coins of both ancient cities. The name of the city is mentioned as HERAKLEOTON on the coins. As the name suggests, the city was founded in the name of the demigod hero Heracles.
It is not known exactly when the ancient city was founded, as it has never been explored until today. However, the earliest date of the coins found in the city is BC. It does not go back any further than the 1st century. This shows that the city was founded in the Hellenistic period.

Herakleia Salbace, which was located within the borders of the Caria Region in the ancient period, was included in the Alabanda Conventus as an administrative union before the Roman Period. In the Roman period, Aphrodisias was included in the management union. During the Byzantine period, M.S. In the 5th century, as in all the regional cities, the ancient city was surrounded by a fortification wall. After the Byzantine period, the region passed into the hands of the Turks from the 12th century. On the Roman period coins, Glykon is mentioned as the priest of Herakleia, Stephanephoros, Gymnasiarch, Boule, Priteneion and Statilios Attalos during the reign of Emperor Nero (54-68 AD). These adjectives are even seen on the coins of the Antonine Period in the 2nd century AD. On the Herakleia coins; bearded Heracles, Serapis, on the reverse; Heracles standing, goddess or Amazon carrying a double-faced ax, between two stags or in a temple, Artemis of Ephesus, sitting on her throne with a snake in front of her, Asklepios, Hygeia, Isis, Hermes, Athena, Dionysus, Aphrodite are depicted.

Located around Denizli in the ancient period; Medicine was accepted as a branch of science in the cities of Hierapolis, Laodikeia, Attouda, Karura, Herakleia Sallbace and Eumeneia.
According to the information we obtained from inscriptions and ancient sources; Medical science has gone too far in Herakleia Salbace (Tavas, Foundation Village). In particular, doctors from the same family served as the chief physicians of the Roman Emperors Trajanus (98-117 AD), Marcus Aurelius (A.D. 161-180) and Lucus Verus (A.D. 161-169). According to the information we have obtained from the inscriptions, the physician and advisor of Emperor Trajanus is Titus Statilius Kriton. Again, an inscription found in the city shows that Archelaos was an important medical doctor around 50 AD. Again, according to the documents at hand, the doctor of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius (138-161 AD) and Marcus Aurelius (161-180 AD) was Damocrates. Undoubtedly, the chief doctor in the periods of Roman Emperors Marcus Aurelius (161-180 AD) and Lucus Verus (161-169 AD) was Statilius Attalos. Another important doctor mentioned in the inscriptions is Diogenianost. Although the ancient city of Herakleia Salbace was founded in the name of Heracles, the god of power, the chief god of the city was Asklepios and his wife Hygeia. This shows how far the ancient city went in the field of medicine and that the doctors who grew up here in ancient times became famous all over the world. In addition, the god of health Asklepios and his wife Hygeia are frequently depicted on reliefs and statues in the ancient city of Herakleia. Related to these, there was a medical school in the ancient city and the most famous physicians of the ancient world were trained here. Information about these will be finalized as a result of the excavations to be made.

The ancient city of Herakleia, Aphrodisias, was located on the main road route reaching Kibyra (Gölhisar) on Apollonia Salbace (Medet Village). This road then reaches south to Attaleia (Antalya). For this reason, it has a very important strategic position in terms of being on the city crossing point.
Today, there are not many ruins due to the Vakıf Village on the ancient city. Despite this, it is possible to see the city’s fortifications, stadium and some unidentified structures. During the agricultural works carried out in the village, some foundation remains, sculptures, reliefs, inscriptions, and grain jars are encountered. There are many architectural blocks, capitals and column fragments scattered throughout the village. Marble artifacts such as the hygeia statue of the goddess of health, Zeus Ktesios Patrios (the relief of the shepherds’ protective father, sculpture torsos) unearthed in the ancient city of Herakleia are exhibited in the Hierapolis Archeology Museum. In addition, the Denizli Museum Directorate conducted excavations in the monumental Hieron tomb located on the Ören Ridge, which belongs to an important figure of the ancient city. and the reliefs of this monument are under protection today.
Scientific and continuous excavation and restoration works to be carried out in the ancient city of Herakleia and Herakleia Hieron will provide great mobility and profit to the region. Because the ancient city and tomb monument are on the touristic route of Aphrodisias. As a result of the unearthing of the archaeological artifacts located here, the tourists who will come to the region will buy handicrafts and textile products, thus both the archaeological richness of the region will be promoted and commercial activity and vitality will be provided.
Stadium
It is between the city wall surrounding the ancient city and today’s Vakıf village. Some steps can be seen on the slopes of the stadium in the east-west direction. The steps in the western part have been completely destroyed.
Heracleia Hieronu Artemis and Leto

About 4 km from the ancient city of Herakleia Salbace. east of today’s Tavas-Kızılcabölük town, 1 km. It is located in the northeast, at a place called Ören ridge and Kocapınar locality. Hieron, located on the ridge of Salbacos (Babadag) mountain, is rectangular in shape. It is surrounded by reliefs consisting of plates on all four sides. On the reliefs, mythological scenes related to Armetis, Apollo, Pan, Dionysus and Heracles were processed. It belongs to the 1st century AD Roman period. There are symbols representing 12 signs on the triangular pediments. It was made by the masters of Aphrodisias. It is a mausoleum belonging to a prominent ruler of the region. Here, the owner of the tomb showed himself with the gods and tried to explain his closeness to the gods. Hand tools belonging to the neolithic period on the skirts of the mound where Hieron is located are exhibited in Pamukkale Archeology Museum today.
]]>The opening of the region where Tokyo is today to settlement dates back to ancient times. After the establishment of a strong imperial administration in Japan in the 6th century, it became a part of the Musashi province.
The port city of Tokyo on the shores of Tokyo Bay was known as Edo (“estuary gate”) until the 19th century. Edo castle occurred in Japanese history in the 12th century as the homeland of the powerful samurai clan Edo family. In 1603, the founder of the Tokugava Shogunate, Ieyasu Tokugava, made Edo the capital of the shogun rule. Under the shogunate regime, Edo developed into the center of Japan’s global and economic political sphere.
The Japanese emperor, who ended the Shogun rule in 1868, migrated from Kyoto to the former Shogun Palace in Edo Castle, and the name of the city changed from Kyoto to Tokyo, as it was the capital in the east.

Tokyo was severely damaged by the earthquake on September 12, 1923. After the earthquake, the city was rebuilt and suburbs began to form around it during this period. 20 years later II. It was destroyed again by heavy bombardment by US planes in World War II.
After the 1950s, Tokyo showed a parallel development with the country’s economy and grew rapidly and reached its present level.
In the center of the city is the Imperial Palace surrounded by moats and extensive gardens. To the east of the palace is the Maranouçi district, considered the center of the Japanese business world; to the northeast lies Kanda district, where many universities and printing houses are located. The official buildings were gathered in the Kasumigaseki district to the south of the palace. The national parliament building is in the west of Kasumigaseki. Ginza district, a world-famous shopping center, is in the eastern part of the city. Tokyo’s architecture ranges from two- or three-story wooden houses, to Meiji-era stone structures and skyscrapers made of concrete or steel. Meici Temple, which is Japan’s main center of worship, is considered a national monument.
Initially, the buildings were limited to 30 meters to be earthquake resistant, but after the 1960s many new earthquake resistant buildings were built that exceed this height. The main ones are Mainiçi Publishing House, Tokyo Cathedral, National Theater and International Trade Center.
Urban transportation is provided by buses, subways and electric trains belonging to the public or private sector. There are two airports in Tokyo, one for domestic flights and the other for international flights.
Tokyo, the cultural center of Japan, has many museums, libraries and universities. Ueno Park includes the Tokyo National Museum, the National Science Museum, the Zoo and the National Museum of Western Art. Most universities and colleges in Japan are in Tokyo. The main national institutions of higher education outside of Tokyo University are Tokyo Institute of Technology, Hitotsubashi University and Tokyo Fine Arts University. The most famous private universities are Vaseda and Keio universities.
Places To See
In fact, Tokyo surprises those looking for a very authentic and exotic city at first step. What appears is all forms of modern life.
What about those who hide and those in between?
The Imperial Palace is in the very center of Tokyo. You can photograph the palace, which is usually closed to visit, from the outside (best seen over the Nijubashi Bridge).
Sensoji Temple is also one of Tokyo’s top tourist attractions. M.S. Built in 620, the temple is one of the Kaaba of Buddhism. Its address is 2-3-1 Asakusa, Taito-ku.
Tokyo National Museum is Japan’s largest museum. You can see all stages of the history of Japan here.
You should definitely see Tsukiji Fish Market. The best time is between 4-8 in the morning. There is no other place where you can eat sushi so fresh. Its address is Tsukiji Subway Station Honganji Temple exit.
You can also visit the Tokyo Stock Exchange free of charge with an English-speaking guide.
The traditional tea ceremony is one of the must-see activities in Tokyo. You can see the tea ceremonies in many hotels, but before you go, be sure to ask if you can watch the tea ceremonies.
The tallest aquarium in the world is also in Tokyo. In Tokyo International Aquarium, you can see fish from all over the world.
Disneyland is also one of Tokyo’s attractive centers.
Ueno Park, Shinjuku Gyoen, Hama Rikyu Garden are also must-see places.

City of Curves!
It is almost impossible to find a flat object, road and bridge in this city.
Icons of the city
Lombard street
Golden gate bridge
Coit Tower-Telegraph tower
Trans America skyscraper
Alcatraz island / former prison
Sea lions and pier 39 (dock)
Victorian style houses
I think the best part of our trip was hidden at the end. Actually, I was sure of this even before I set out, so I spent 2 days for this city. Maybe those who read the article will laugh, but we have become professional as the family travels with lightning speed – without skipping any detail on the tour. As we came to the city in the evening, we set out for the Coit tower to watch the sunset. We chose the hotel from outside of the city due to parking problem. But thanks to our road map, we saw many places in the city and reached the place we wanted. Coit tower, which provides 360 degrees of observation of the city, was closed because the working hour was over. The next day, we came again and recorded every detail through the lens to show the grandchildren.
San Francisco’s sleek architecture and Victorian homes
Alcatraz island and prison
Nowadays, this island, which serves as the main visiting place for tourists on cruise tours, is actually a prison. It was used as a prison until 1963, and only one person was able to escape, and his fate is unknown. At the insistence of my brother and father, we entered the ticket queue and they said that the tickets were over for 8 days. Unfortunately, I cannot say that we could not go because it was safer for me to see it from a distance.
Lombard Street – the most winding street
Do not come to this city if the bustling car journey, curved roads, bumps hold you. Lombard Street is actually a tiny street on a long street, but it is famous for being the most winding street in the city. Many people line up to drive through this street, especially tourists, taking pictures of the street covered with colorful hydrangeas on each side.
Bridges and me
For some reason, cities with bridges are also very civilized to me. I mean a civilization far from the word contemporary, and cities that carry remnants of civilization. The fact that Istanbul, the cradle of the most beautiful civilizations, and our beautiful Bosphorus are adorned with two beautiful necklaces, perhaps makes me love bridges.
That red bridge-Golden Gate bridge we saw at the beginning of Our Home, starring Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen twins, is just one of the many bridges that grace San Francisco. This red bridge, which has been shown in many movies, can be crossed on foot and by bicycle. Even without going to the bridge, many cyclists in the city manage to attract people with their “bike the bridge” campaigns. If I had time, it would be an activity that is at the top of my list, because it is not what we did not do – I have gone between trucks on the Burhaniye-Ayvalık highway, every youth hey!. or a similar jacket is a must because even the city was flying at the end of June. They also call Chicago the “windy city”, however, they are the delusions of those who do not see this place.
On the detective side, a warning for suicidal people at the entrance of the bridge, “Don’t lose hope, call us!”
Bay Bridge / bridge connecting San Francisco and Treasure Island.
Connecting San Francisco and Oakland, the Oakland Bay Bridge passes through Treasure Island and bends into the bay. It is so interesting that this island is both quiet like a private property. This obscure place is an escape for some, even a movie scene for some. Both sides of the city can be contacted from here. Views from this secret place:
There are so many photos to show, it will not fit. Finally, another San Francisco from a bird’s eye view from Berkeley hill!
Before I forget, Turk Street!
This street did not sound safe to me like many parts of the city. I don’t think it’s possible to find so many homeless people even in New York. When it gets dark, they start to appear in the square and lay their beds in the parks. I wish we had studied here, I said what a beautiful city my mother touched on my security problem. It is not unfair that even at 3 am in our neighborhood, it is possible to safely withdraw money from the cash machine and come home on foot. In the following days, I will post photos of my neighborhood, where my neighborhood is, insha’Allah. The name of a street close to the park of the homeless is “Turk”. Although it is not true to its name, it is nice to be known somewhere.
We came to the end of our two-day tour, even though we said 7 days was not enough, we finished all the places to visit, even we had a lake pleasure until our plane took off. If you don’t believe it, come on!
