


Ortahisar is a town of Nevşehir, located on the Nevşehir-Ürgüp highway, 6 kilometers away from Ürgüp.
Its most prominent structure is the Ortahisar Castle, which is 86 meters high at an altitude of 1200 meters and was carved during the Etiler period. The castle was used for both strategic and settlement purposes. At the foot of the castle, there are examples of civil architecture characteristic of Cappadocia.
Additionally, locally grown potatoes and apples, as well as oranges and lemons brought from the Mediterranean Region, are stored in rock warehouses carved into the slopes of almost all valleys.
It is 6 km west of Ürgüp and near the Nevşehir road. It became a town in 1916. It is an interesting town with its natural beauties and historical features. The valley where Kavak, İbrahim Paşa and Ortahisar are located reaches the Damsa stream valley. The area near Damsa stream in this valley is called Üzengi stream. It is a place with natural features, drinking water and mineral waters. There is a castle with a giant fairy chimney in the middle of Ortahisar.
Foreigners also call this castle a castle. It is hollow inside. There are rooms and lounges. Although it is difficult to climb to the top, the beauty of the environment seen from there will relieve your fatigue. There are also many churches around the town. Talaş stream attracts a lot of attention in this respect. In the middle fortress, the houses rise step by step towards the castle. In recent years, colorful cut stone houses have been built in accordance with the new natural characteristic structure on the plain towards Nevşehir road.
The rocks in the region have been designated as a protected area. It consists of two neighborhoods named Atik and Cedit. Its natural beauties, old historical structures, interesting citrus warehouses and proximity to Göreme rock churches make it popular with tourists. There are extremely interesting monasteries and churches in Ortahisar valleys. These are Sarıca Church, Cambazlı Church, Tavşanlı Church, Balkan Creek Churches, Hallaç Creek Monastery.
The people of Ortahisar earn their living from viticulture. It is also done in cattle breeding. Ortahisar Castle was used for both strategic and settlement purposes.
