Hydrogen is a substance that is 7 times more combustible than any petroleum product used as vehicle fuel. Although hydrogen is partially present in almost all substances in nature, its most easily accessible source is water. There are 2 hydrogen bonds in a water molecule, and when water is exposed to electricity with a simple electrolysis device, it separates into gases.
In other words, 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen are released from a water molecule, both gases being the most flammable elements in nature.
The question is how do we obtain hydrogen from water? You can find out with this article. First, we will build the electrolysis device that we will use to obtain hydrogen.
Required materials and dimensions: 316L 0.8mm steel sheet. We used 1mm sheet metal in our previous work and decided that it was not necessary and it was too thick. We also decided that sheet thickness below 0.8 mm is thin. It must be square with dimensions of 110x110mm. We need 11 plates in total.
Leave 10x10mm protrusions on the same corner of 3 of these plates (think of it as the upper left corner, for example) where you can make electrical connections and cable connections, and drill holes in them to make 5mm diameter connections. shown in the picture below.
You need 3mm thick soft plastic cut into a square shape that can accommodate 12 gaskets. It should be square in shape, with an outer edge length of 110mm and an inner edge length of 100mm. You can cut this yourself from pvz soft plastic material. This material is used to prevent the plates from touching each other, and when placing them between the plates, the water contact surface of the plate should not fall below 100x100mm.
From now on, you need 10mm thick plexiglass to serve as the outer container or a material that will not conduct electricity and is strong enough to handle the same process. I’ve seen people use a smooth plastic cutting board for this. It could be. If you do not use a low speed when drilling Plexiglass with a brand, the plastic material will melt and deform.
Prepare the locations of water inlets and outlets, but do this according to the dimensions of the apartments you will use or have them made. Once you start the assembly, you cannot do post-assembly operations, it would be difficult. For the water inlet and outlet, have a groove cut for connection to the mounting location according to your own material.
For screw connections, purchase a sufficient number of screws of your own design and start assembling as in the video. Consider that the screws may have electrical contact and you can tape the screws or cover the screws with plastic pipe the size of the screw. When tightening the screws, opposite screws should be tightened at the same distance, that is, the electrolysis device should be of the same thickness in all directions.
There are a few important points. The electrical connection order is – (minus) + (plus) – (minus), so there will be one + connected in the middle. – After the connector is connected, 4 empty ones will be connected, then + current will be connected, then 4 empty ones will be connected again. There should be a 2-3 mm gap between each plate. The answer to the question of why 11 plates is that 1.2 volt current must flow into the cells formed between each plate.
In similar studies, there are those who argue that 2 volt current should flow between each cell. We did it this way.
