KONI adjustable coilovers will be fitted on the MK6 Jetta. For better looks and more capable suspension performance. The shock absorbers will be changed and the height will be reduced.
Our Jetta was equipped with H&R Sport Springs in the factory suspension, which lowered the car slightly. The biggest complaint with the old layout was the amount of body roll and general lethargy when driving hard. Not to say the setup is inferior, but for a more planted and comfortable feel, KONI 1150 coilovers are an excellent choice.
Overall, the suspension has been strengthened without sacrificing comfort, reducing body roll and making the car feel more stable in corners. After a week of daily driving, the owner commented several times that the Jetta should have gotten these KONI coilovers from the factory. Now let’s take you to the same kind of driving pleasure! Let’s dive right in.
front suspension
First, you’ll want to loosen your axle bolts unless you use air tools like we do. With your wheels still on the ground, remove the center caps on the front wheels and your 24mm socket with a hammer (or an extremely sturdy breaker bar) and remove the main axle bolts. It may be 17 mm on some models. Our MK6 Jetta GLI is a 24 mm 12 point non ribbed bolt.
ReassemblyNow that the coilovers are installed in both their mounts and strut mounts, you can begin reassembling the rest of your front suspension and CV axles.
In order, you will want to:Loosen the lower ball jointInstall the CV joint back into the wheel bearingInstall the lower ball joint and torque the nuts to specificationInstall the sway bar end link and torque to 48 ft-lbInstall the axle bolt and torque to spec depending on the type of bolt you haveInstall the brake hose and ABS wiring bracketInstall the headlight level sensor, if applicableInstall the front wheels and torque to 89 ft-lb torque to ft-lbs
