Misis Mound and Bridge is 27 km from Adana city center. It is located in the east, within the borders of Yakapınar Town of Yüreğir district.
It is said that Mopsos, one of the Trojan heroes, founded the Ancient City of Mopsuhestia. Because Mopsos came here after the war and completely repaired the city, the city began to be called Miopsusestia, meaning the homeland of Mopsos, and this name changed over time and became Misis.
Excavations in Misis Höyük have documented that the history of settlement dates back to 7,000 BC. The mound was inhabited in the Chalcolithic, Old Bronze Age, Hittite, Iron Age, Hellenistic Period, Roman Period and Middle Ages. The city, which was an important center during the Roman and Byzantine Periods, was founded on a limestone ridge overlooking the Ceyhan River and on the eastern and western banks of the Ceyhan River.
The bridge was built with nine arches to cross the Ceyhan River by the Roman Emperor Flavius Julius Constantius in the 4th century AD, and was repaired by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in the 6th century AD. In Misis, the nine-arched stone bridge connecting the city from east to west, the walls in the acropolis, aqueducts, baths, rock tombs, the stadium in the north of the city, the theater ruins in the south and the Havraniye Caravanserai from the Seljuk Period are important surviving works.
