There are 24 animal and 8 human sculptures placed in zigzags on this sacred path of Min’s handrail. The animals with sculptures are believed to guard the empire, and even their ordering is hierarchical. 6 stone animal statues on both sides consist of tiger, legend animal Xie, camel, elephant, another mystical animal Qi Lin and horse. All of these animals are of supreme importance in Chinese imperial culture. Later, a statue of the emperor’s top 4 top soldiers and 4 top state officials was made.
