Information About Akyaka – Mugla / Turkey

The chrome mine of Sıtkı Koçman was exported from the Old Pier (Mine Pier), located on the road to Çınar beach on the Akyaka coast, from 1950 to 65. The same pier was used by the Ottoman Empire as a grain export pier to Arab countries, and before the Egyptians used it to bring dates and fabrics. It is also known that the pier was a wine and citrus export pier in the Eastern Byzantine period. Goods brought from Anatolia were made with mule transport and 40 oar boats at the entrance and exit of this pier. It continues to exist today as the four walls used as the customs warehouse of the Ottoman Empire. The forest land from Akyaka to Akbük is protected as a protected area and there is no residence permit.

Another interesting bay near Akyaka is Boncuk Bay, which is separated from Marmaris road and is located a little further from Sedir Island. In particular, sharks weighing half a kilo come to lay their eggs in the bay where underwater enthusiasts dive. Fish can be watched in the bay, where no dangerous events have been encountered throughout its 100-year history.
