Minato Mirai 21 is Yokohama’s gleaming waterfront district, a planned area of skyscrapers, shopping malls, museums, and a seaside amusement park. At its centre rises the Landmark Tower, for years Japan’s tallest building, whose 69th-floor Sky Garden observatory offers sweeping views over the bay and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.
The Landmark Tower
The Sky Garden observation deck sits 273 metres above the city, reached by one of the world’s fastest elevators. From here the whole of Yokohama unfolds, from the harbour and Ferris wheel to the distant Tokyo skyline. Sunset and the hour after are especially rewarding as the district lights up.
Waterfront Attractions
Around the tower you will find the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel, the Cup Noodles Museum, art galleries, and the restored sailing ship Nippon Maru. The walkways linking these sights make Minato Mirai an easy and scenic area to explore on foot, day or night.
Shopping and Dining
Vast complexes such as Queen’s Square and the MARK IS mall cluster around the stations, offering shops, restaurants, and cafes with harbour views. It is a relaxed place to pause between sights, with plenty of choice for every budget.
Modern, spacious, and built for strolling, Minato Mirai 21 is the symbol of contemporary Yokohama and the natural starting point for any visit to the city.
