With its name meaning God, it is the oldest settlement in the region. It is known that Teos, one of the 12 Ionian cities, was first founded by Atamas in 1080 BC.
TEOS
The beginning of our civilization in the Aegean basin dates back to 4000-3000 BC. During this period, the CRETE-MORACO-IONIA and ISLANDS Civilizations were seen in the basin. The civilization of the Cretans was put to an end by the Achaeans who settled in the Peloponnese. The Dorians, who entered Greece from the north, destroyed the Achaeans’ Peloponnese civilization. Sari Teksiye Theosu, author of the work titled History of Asia Minor, wrote in B.C.
It is a city of Carians, founded by Cretans who escaped from the Achaeans in 2000 BC. In 1190, the Achaeans and some Greek tribes who escaped from the Darlarians began to migrate to the Western Anatolian coast. The first group landed in Teos under the leadership of Atamas and was very well received.
When this good acceptance was heard, the second largest convoy came under the command of Apekus. Teos, whose natives were in the minority, thus ceased to be a Carian city and became an ION city.
According to Jak Pirenni in his work titled GREAT WORLD HISTORY, Teos experienced its brightest period during the peace period established by the Assyrians in 900 BC. During this period, Teos, Millet, Piriyene, Ephesus, Samos, Kolofon, Kalaomen and Eritrea united and established an Ionian federation.
This federation became world famous in mineral processing, sea and land trade and banking. According to the History of Herodotus, when the Persians destroyed Lydia in 546 BC, Ionia had to defend against the Persians, and Teos joined the Ionian alliance. He participated by giving 17 ships and soldiers. (Then the power of Teos can be better understood if we consider that the Trojans were able to provide this unit with 3 ships.)
