Theatre and the Bolshoi

For many visitors, an evening at the Bolshoi Theatre is the highlight of a trip to Moscow. One of the most famous ballet and opera houses in the world, its lavish auditorium is a spectacle in itself, and a night here is a quintessentially Russian cultural experience. The city has a deep performing-arts tradition, so beyond the Bolshoi there are numerous theatres, concert halls, and smaller stages offering everything from classical music to contemporary drama.

A gentler way to spend a Moscow night is along the Moskva River. Evening river cruises glide past the floodlit Kremlin and cathedrals, while the embankments and parks such as Gorky Park stay lively after sunset with cafes and open-air spaces. In summer especially, the long evenings make a riverside stroll one of the most pleasant and affordable ways to enjoy the city by night.
