Air fresheners that diffuse essential oils throughout the home can be quite costly for a nice-smelling house. In addition, studies have found that the chemicals they contain can have negative effects on our lungs and may be harmful to our health. However, this does not mean we cannot improve the scent of our home without taking risks; indoor plants are one of the many things that can help us do exactly that.
Here are some of those plants…
1- Wax Flower (Hoya):
Also known as the wax plant or porcelain flower, the hoya has a pleasant, sweet fragrance. For instance, many people say the Hoya flower smells like chocolate or vanilla. It is not hard to care for: the plant is suitable even for beginners. Just make sure to keep the soil moist and to avoid direct sunlight on the leaves.
2. GERANIUM
Geraniums release different scents when you touch them. And the variety of their fragrances is truly impressive. Their scent can range from lemon, chocolate, rose and ginger to many other scented-leaf geraniums. To thrive, they need plenty of sunlight and moist soil.
3. JASMINE
In addition to its beautiful star-like white flowers, this plant has a pleasant, sweet fragrance that is especially noticeable at night. Jasmine grows faster when exposed to sunlight, so take it outside occasionally during the summer months and keep it near a south-facing window. Also, keep the soil moist but not wet.
4. CUBAN OREGANO
Sometimes also called Mexican mint, Cuban oregano is neither oregano nor mint. It is a pleasant plant with velvety leaves that you can use not only for its pleasant minty scent but also fresh or dried for cooking. Cuban oregano grows best beside a sunny window if you water it once a week.
5. GARDENIA
With a distinctive floral fragrance, the gardenia is one of the best-smelling plants and rightfully holds a place in many gardeners’ hearts. It has magnificent white flowers and glossy green leaves, but it can be difficult to care for. Among the many conditions it needs are moderate humidity, fairly low temperatures and plenty of light.
6. LAVENDER
Lavender Garden in a White Pot – Artificial Flower
Although it is not a very common houseplant, growing lavender at home can offer you many benefits. You cannot ignore its magnificent purple-flowered appearance and the pleasant scent it brings to your home. In addition, the plant is often used in aromatherapy and can help reduce stress. Make sure to give your light-loving lavender enough water.
