MarmarisMarmaris, which Herodotus said “has the most beautiful sky in the world”, is not only an important tourism city based on pine forests in the Southern Aegean, but also one of the most important yachting centers of the region. Its marina is at the service of yachtsmen for 12 months. A wonderful combination of nature and entertainment takes place here. Yacht manufacturing and maintenance are also carried out in the workshops in the Yalancı Strait of Marmaris, which has a very suitable natural harbor for yachts.
While its Mediterranean climate provides the opportunity to swim in the sea even in winter, the dense and high mountains surrounding it are home to “sweetgum” and “sycamore” trees, which are rare in the world. It is still possible to come across untouched bays around Marmaris, where nature is as generous as it can be. Bays and islands of various sizes, dating back to prehistory, await curious communities of people.
You always have the chance to choose a place to your liking in the surrounding bays among the sounds of birds.
Ciftlik Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches of the region, where daily tour boats also visit. The coarse sandy beach of Çiftlik Bay attracts the most attention. The sea is always sparkling. There is a small island at the entrance of the bay. However, since this island is private property, you cannot leave without permission. There are historical ruins on the beach at the tip of Gerbekilise Bay, right next to it. This bay is also among the main stopping places for blue cruise boats.
Datça Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Datça is one of the paradise corners where the Mediterranean and the Aegean meet. This place is dazzling with its unique natural beauties, crystal clear sea and virgin bays. Half of the Datça peninsula, which Geography Scholar Strabon described as “God sends his beloved servant to Datça if he wants him to live long”, faces the Aegean and the other half faces the Mediterranean.
In addition to its natural beauties, the peninsula, one of the oldest settlements in the Aegean, also appeals to history buffs with the ancient city of Knidos nearby. Among the ruins in the ancient city of Knidos, located on Tekir Cape, 28 kilometers away from Datça, there is a small theater with a capacity of 10 thousand people, a large theater with a capacity of 20 thousand people, an Odeon, and various temples of Apollo and Venus.
KnidosAt the southwestern end of Gökova are the ruins of Knidos, one of the largest cities of its time and the homeland of Prexiteles, the greatest sculptor of antiquity. Today, Knidos can only be reached by sea; Just like thousands of years ago. Knidos is the only city left on land after the removal of Halicarnassus from the Dor Hexapolis (Six Cities). The most sacred place of Doric Hexapolis, the temple of Apollo, is located here.
According to Herodotus, Knidos was founded by colonists from Sparta. The city walls, which have three gates, are well preserved. However, the eastern part of the ancient theater in the north of the city was completely destroyed. The ancient theater consists of 35 rows and 2 diosomas (Diazoma: Promenade and transition areas separating the seating rows in Ancient Theatres). It is not known which period the rectangular temple located here belongs to.
There is a second odeon to the west of the temple, a Doric stoa to the south, and a church built on the Dionizios temple a little below the buildings. Eudoksos (4000 BC), one of the most important astronomers and mathematicians in history, and the famous architect Sostrato are from Knidos.
Bozburun: Located 50 kilometers west of Marmaris, the bay, which has become the apple of the eye of yachtsmen, has tourist facilities, restaurants and a marina. Bozburun is where the masters of gulet boats live.
