


Deyrulzafaran Monastery: 3 km from Mardin province. Deyrulzafaran Monastery, located in the east, is located on the slopes overlooking Upper Mesopotamia. Except for the southern part of the monastery, the other sides are surrounded by mountains. The monastery, which is an exceptional monument that has survived to this day among the historical and religious values of the Assyrians, has been the center of the Patriarchate of the Assyrians of the World for 639 years.
Although the founding date of the BC parts of the monastery is unknown, it is estimated that it dates back to the founding of the Mardin province. The building dating back to before Christ was found in the 19th century.
The most important feature that stands out in this structure is the ceiling structure. The stones forming the ceiling are 20×0.5 m. The dimensions are in a geometric structure standing in 13 rows and interlocking without any mortar between them. Another striking feature is the presence of arched sections on both sides of the temple, which are places for sacrifices. The temple is 52.5M_.
The additions made to the monastery in the post-Christian period were realized with the beginning of the Christian period (AD 493).
Deyrulzafaran Monastery preserves its magnificent status as a world-wide unique monument among the religious and historical values of the Assyrians, with the most beautiful architectural examples of the past, with its attractive churches, domes and columns, and wooden hand-carved doors that have survived from past to present.
Mor Mihayel Church and Burç Monastery: Built in 185. There are sections belonging to BC. It is at the bottom of New Road Street.
Hammara Monastery: It was built in 326 AD. It is located in Kırkız area of Diyarbakır Kapı Mahallesi.
Mar Barbara Monastery: It was built in the 17th century. It is in the form of a ruin in the new city.
Mor Efram Monastery: It was built in 1884 by Patriarch Cercis Şelhet.
Virgin Mary Monastery: It is in Midyat Anıtlı (Hah) Village. According to the general opinion of the local Assyrians, it is the city where three Zoroastrians came and founded the Virgin Mary Monastery.
Mor Dimet Monastery: It is in Dereiçi Village of Savur District. It is also called the Rheumatism Monastery because Rheumatism patients who come to the monastery are cured.
Mor Cırcıs Monastery: It is in Derik District Center. It has a distinct architecture with its high ceiling and the choir balcony that cannot be seen from inside the U-shaped church overlooking the altar.
Deyrulumur Monastery: 18 km from Midyat. It is located in the east and was built by Mor Samuel from Savur and Mor Şemun from Kartmin in AD. It was built in 397. It was the metropolitan center in 615 and 1049.
In the monastery, there are places of shelter and prayer built by Mor Şemun during the time of King Arkedeus, the monumental house where the sarcophagi will be placed in the age of King Theodosius, the Church of the Virgin Mary, the Church of the Apostles, the Church of Forty Martyrs, the Temple of Mor Şamuel, the Dome of Teodara due to the healing of the king’s daughter Theodara by Mor Şamuel, the Temple of Mor Şemun, the Dome built by the Egyptians, the Great Temple built by King Anastas in 512 AD and magnificent architecture. It preserves its legendary monumental character with all its magnificent examples.
