Balikesir Trip – Turkey

Turkey’s last active wooden windmill:

As a matter of fact, I wrote so many articles to talk about the existence of this mill.

Şamlı Town of Balıkesir, on a windy hill near Karakol Village, seems to be completely inexpressible for the wooden windmill, which still exists and is active. The centuries-old mill belonging to Cemil Memiş, which was seven at one time and only one survives today, works with a “check scheme”, grinds wheat, barley, oats, you do not want to leave the mill that makes whole wheat flour. You can even spend your summer vacation staying at this mill, and you may not look for the comfort of a 5-star hotel at all. This is my opinion, of course, the gentle wind, the green hills in the distance, the mill is surrounded by wild flowers in the spring, I don’t know if I can tell?
We continue our trip by mentioning the colognes among the gifts of Balıkesir with a memory.

Years ago, when the famous US economist Malcom Forbes came to Turkey with the Balloon of Suleiman the Magnificent, I followed this tour as a newspaper officer. I took a helicopter from Ephesus and landed in Bursa via Balıkesir after refueling in Izmir. However, a strong 70 nut strong wind greeted us over Balıkesir. As we were flying over the dense pine forest, the slopes were pulling towards itself with great force, like a dry leaf, we were moving away from the eddies. Noticing my anxiety, the pilot gave some advice to keep me busy and said “open the window and get your hand out, hold it for two minutes, then smell it.” I did exactly what I was told and smelled the thick pine scent that felt on my hand until Bursa. I want to tell you that the pine and tobacco colognes of Balıkesir, which were used by many people and bought as souvenirs, are well-deserved.
