The love of nature and human beings are lived together here. You see, a few people on the boat are collecting hooks and ladles in the sea. On another day, children, women, old people and soldiers scattered around the city clean or plant trees.

Temple of Athena: In the name of Athena, the mother goddess of Phokaia, one of the 12 Ionian cities of Western Anatolia, BC. It is one of the early examples of the Ionic temple type, which was started to be built in 590-580. Its columns made of tuff stone carry the gable roof system. The excavation of the Temple of Athena started in the 1998-1999 excavation season and is still ongoing. The temple is in the center of Phokaia and overlooking the city. Its main entrance faces east. In front of the east side was an altar where offerings to Athena were left. The temple was surrounded by a beautiful podium wall.
During the current excavations, work is being done to uncover this podium wall. Many temple architectural pieces were found on the podium wall. Also, the Athena Sanctuary was used as a living space in the 17th and 18th centuries. Many architectural and ceramic finds from this period were also found.
