From the finds in Saadet Village near Oylat, it is understood that the use of the thermal spring dates back to the Roman period. In addition to the similarity of the construction style to Roman baths, the cisterns and jars found in the surrounding villages confirm that the Oylat thermal spring was used by the Romans. A legend told about the thermal springs, which were also used in the Ottoman period, is as follows:

During the Byzantine Empire, İnegöl Tekfuru had a daughter. One day, the girl gets sick and falls into bed. The doctors of the time could not find a cure for Tekfur’s daughter’s problem. The illness lasts a very long time and Tekfur cannot tolerate the suffering of his beloved daughter. The doctors treating the patient recommend that the girl be sent to the then-unnamed thermal spring in the forest to get her out of sight and give her a last chance for treatment.

The girl is brought here and left saying ‘Die’, believing that it is her last days. Tekfur’s daughter, who is thought to have a hopeless problem, is washed with these waters every day. He gets better day by day and returns to his father’s palace after regaining his former health. Since then, Ölyat thermal spring has been known and used as a source of healing by the local people. This healing water is that water again. But over time, ÖLYAT and OYLAT were made.

Some people in İnegöl, Yenişehir, Bilecik and Pazaryeri still call Oylat Ölyat.

GEOGRAPHICAL STRUCTURE:

On the Bursa – Eskişehir highway, 27 km from İnegöl. “Oylat Thermal Springs”, located at a distance, leans against Uludağ and is built on a slope surrounded by green valleys on both sides. The valley irrigated by the Oylat stream is very beautiful and relaxing. This stream, fed by the snow waters of Uludağ and the surrounding springs, forms a beautiful waterfall in the forest, about half an hour away, and is also the bed of delicious trout.

Oylat Thermal Spring, which is 840 meters above sea level, has all the necessary features for mountain and climate treatment at the foothills of Uludağ. In addition, Oylat is not only a healing center, but also a holiday center with its newly established facilities, with cool air in summer and a delightful view covered with snow in winter.

The valley through which the Oylat stream passes by creating waterfalls in Oylat, Bursa’s İnegöl district, integrates with the forest consisting of pine, hornbeam, oak, chestnut, linden, poplar plane trees, rosehip and blackberry plants.

While the ground is covered with wildflowers and violets in spring, in autumn everything takes on the appearance of an oil painting. In winter, just imagine the indescribable beauty of nature with its white cover. Surrounded by valleys on both sides, the thermal springs location built on the slope, leaning on the continuation of Uludağ.

The thermal spring water has formed a “precipitate” with the calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate water it has brought for a long time and formed the terraces where the thermal spring is located. The canyon-like valley, located between the smoky “pointed rock hill” and the hot springs, creates a continuous fresh air corridor and pumps oxygen.

Meanwhile, a leaf-covered ground, clean air with an earthy scent, and a concert of songbirds accompany the atmosphere, while the endlessly flowing water transforms into the enthusiastic sound of waterfalls, transporting you to a magical world.

OYLAT CAVE:

It is located at the point where Oylat Canyon ends. Oylat Cave was developed on a prominent east-west fault line in the Permian marbles. The entrance of the cave is 5-6 meters above the valley floor. Here  the depth of the canyon is around 450-500 meters. There are 3 more cave entrances above the cave entrance. The total length of the cave, which consists of two interconnected floors, is 665 meters.

The cave, which generally has a meandering profile, is divided into two parts. The first section, from the entrance to the collapse hall, consists of narrow galleries and is approximately 2-5 meters wide. The ceiling height in this section is around 15 meters. Giant cauldrons and stalactite pools occupy an important place here. The second part is the large collapse hall. There is a height difference of 93 meters between the beginning and the end point.

The width of this hall is 25-55 meters and the ceiling height is 3-10 meters. The upper part of the hall, which consists of large blocks and giant dripstone shapes (stalactites, stalagmites and columns), is composed of thick layers of gravel, sand and silt. Oylat cave is a fossil cave that has completed its development. Except for water dripping from the ceiling, there is no obvious water flow.

These waters occasionally form ponds in dripstone pools. In the measurements made in August 1996, a temperature of 29 degrees and an absolute humidity of 47% were measured outside the cave. On the other hand, the temperature at the entrance of the cave was 19 degrees, the humidity was 55%, on the fossil floor at the top the temperature was 20 degrees, 54% humidity, in the gallery where the dripstone pools were located, the temperature was 17 degrees and 78% humidity, and in the upper parts, the temperature was 15 degrees and 90% humidity.

There is a noticeable wind in the passages connecting the cave halls and floors. This situation is very evident in the passages between the fossil layer above the entrance and the lower section. A rich community of living creatures lives in the Oylat cave. Among these, bats, bipods, butterflies, worms and guanobia are very prominent. Oylat spa is located in an area with historical and natural beauties, where intense tourism activities are seen.

Uludağ and Oylat thermal springs are very close. The road to the hot spring passes right in front of the cave. In addition, Oylat canyon and its surroundings, in which the cave also developed, have a wild beauty. On the other hand, the interior views of the cave are covered with extremely beautiful stalactites, stalagmites, columns, walls and curtain dripstones, dripstone pool and cover dripstones.
