Selimiye has the distinction of being one of the most untouched regions. It is an ideal place for those who want to have a quiet holiday, 35 km away from Marmaris, the district of Muğla. In addition, it can provide sea tourism not only in summer but also in winter. Because, starting from January, you can eat Çalabadem and swim in the sea all year round. Another thing that will surprise you while swimming in the sea in winter is the presence of almond trees that resemble snow.
The village people are very interested in tourists and do not hesitate to show their hospitality. You are likely to see people over 100 years old who are still living in good health due to abundant oxygen.
Selimiye provides peace and tranquility without disturbing its naturalness, with its clean sea, fish that provide variety in your meals, and almond and willow trees. If you happen to be at a time when the moon is full, that magnificent view will appear as a dark tray.
The village, whose first name was Hydas in ancient times, later took the name Losta. The village was called “Kızılköy” because the sun disappearing behind the mountains at sunset painted the surroundings in shades of red.
Hydas (Selimiye), one of the ancient settlements such as Loryma Kaisareia, Kastabos, Erine and Bybossos on the Bozburun Peninsula, has ruins from the Archaic period. There are three castle ruins in the surrounding area, one on the highest hill of Selimiye, the other on Sarıkaya Hill, and the last one is Aşarkale in Kızılköy District. The ruins of walls from the Hellenistic age on the southeastern hills of the bay are places of interest, especially for foreign tourists.
Places to See Around If you join the daily tours in Hisarönü Gulf, the first stop is “Camellia Island”. The coast of Kamelya Island, which you reach after a 45-minute sea journey, leaving the hills with a very interesting rock structure on your left from the Selimiye exit, has an incredibly clean and clear sea preferred by yachts. There is a monastery on the shore of the sea that allows 30 meters of bottom visibility and is accessible to people of all ages.
The giant mosaic on the floor of the monastery, made of black, white and gray sea stones, is full of tourists who want to lie on it and integrate with history. Offering different beauties from every angle, the island has features that photography enthusiasts cannot easily leave.
Love Island “Dişlice” The boats move on to another island, “Dişlice”. The island, which has a wild charm that makes you say “I wish I had seen it before”, resembles the lower palate with its toothy appearance sticking out of the sea. The island, full of monumental rocks and with a passage in the middle, has gained a colorful appearance over the years, covered with some types of yellow-orange moss.
Dislice Island, which has volcanic labyrinths, is called “Love Island” because it is suitable for hiding with the recesses between them. The back side of the island, facing Bencik, has calm bays and tiny beaches.
The bays where daily boats and yachts take a sea break have not yet been polluted because the visitors took the garbage and packaging they brought with them. However, it should be reminded that photography enthusiasts should wear rubber shoes and be very careful if they want to climb high. Apart from Kamelya and Dışlice Island, the “Ancient Shipwreck Site”, Balıkaşıran Bencik, İnbükü, Keçibükü, Orhaniye, Kızkumu are the places you can see from the sea on daily tours.
Bayır Village, monumental trees, the waterfall of Turgut Village, the farm beach, and the ancient ruins of Bybossos are among the places that can be reached by land within an hour.
Night in Selimiye If you are looking for a quiet atmosphere, 35 kilometers away from Marmaris, away from crazy entertainment, noise and crowds, Selimiye nights are just for you. If you have timed your arrival to the village to coincide with the full moon, take a full moon tour! The serene bay in the middle of the mountains, surrounded by terraced vineyards, looks like a silver tray with the reflection of the moon.
