Denizli is an important province in terms of tourism, textile industry and transportation, located in the southwest of the Aegean Region of Turkey.

It is located in the southwest of the Anatolian Peninsula and in the southeast of the Aegean Region. It is a gateway between the Aegean and Mediterranean Regions. Denizli Province has lands in both regions.

Denizli province 28o38′ – 30o05′ eastern meridians (the eastern end point is Efekli Tepe on the Gümüşsu – Gökgöl Bay Dinar border of Çivril district, the western end is neighboring Aydın and Manisa, Muğla in the south, and Uşak provinces in the northeast.) Where does the name Denizli come from?

We come across the name Denizli as different names in historical sources. Seljuk records and Denizli court registers give the name Ladik. In Ibn Batuta’s travelogue, it is called Tunguslu. He was also recorded as Tungusic in Mesalikullebsar.

Şerafettin Zemdi, who wrote Tamerlane’s victory book, mentions two names such as Tenguzlug and Tonguzlug. The word Tensiz means Sea in old Turkish. Tunguzlu means Denizli in today’s spelling. As a result, the name Denizli took its current form as the words Tenguzlu and Tunguzlu became the word Denizli through word of mouth over time.
