Legend of Belcekız

Belcekız, who named the bay in Ölüdeniz, has a sad legend. In ancient times, the ships passing through here went to the shore by boat to get anchors and drinking water in the open.

One day, when the young, handsome son of an old captain went out to get water, he saw the beautiful Belcekız. They fell in love with each other as soon as they saw it. However, the young man had to take the water and return. The ship has gone away. Belcekız has always looked at the shore, observed the path of her lover. The young man would come to get water every time the ship passes here and they would meet. One day the storm broke out while passing here. The young man told his father that there was a bay where they could be protected. His father, on the other hand, thought that the boy was willing to smash the ship to see his lover. The fight between father and son grew with the storm. The father threw his son into the sea with a shovel just as the ship was crashing into the rocks. However, he grasped the truth just as he entered the bay. The sea was really like a sheet. The young man died right there. Belcekız, who was waiting for his beloved on the rocks and seeing what happened, died by jumping on the rocks. Since that day, the place where the girl died has been called Belcekız, and the place where the boy died has been called Ölüdeniz.
