Mediterranean Seals

The friends of the seafarers of Foca who do not leave them alone in their struggle against the sea for centuries are cute seals. The total number in the world are around 350-400 monk seals in the world only in Turkey, Greece and lives in the northwestern African coast.
Some of the Mediterranean monk seals have adopted the islands around Foça as their homeland. Despite the increasing tourism and fishing, they use the caves and shores in these islands for breeding, raising their young, resting and sunbathing. Mediterranean monk seals, whose Latin name is “Monachus Monachus”, need to go ashore and the human signs in their living places disturb them. This species is one of 12 species of mammals that are threatened with extinction on earth.
In order to protect the Mediterranean monk seals living in Foça islands, it is forbidden to approach up to 2 miles in the islands between Aslanburnu and Deveboynu Cape, and to approach more than 100 meters to Siren Rocks and Orak Island where seals are seen.
