Burdur Lake is not very pleasant due to its surroundings and water, but Salda Lake, which you will see when you enter the Tefenni road and 4 km past Yeşilova, is the most beautiful lake in the region.
Salda is the deepest and clearest lake in Turkey. As you progress 50-60 meters from the shore, the water, which does not exceed knee depth, suddenly becomes deep and the bottom becomes impossible to find. It is known that the water carried by streams is absorbed from the sinkholes on the lake bottom and turns into groundwater.
Its surroundings are covered with red and larch forest.
It is known that its water is healing. Magnesium and clayey lake water are good for some skin diseases.
Carp and eel come out. But hunting is prohibited. The surrounding forest is fertile for land hunting.
The unique view of the lake is laid out under your feet when you come from Yeşilova, head towards Eşler plateau and reach Radar hill. The white sandy beach that appears as the water recedes offers an image that is very compatible with the deep blue of the lake. The white appearance on the sand is the work of magnesium silicate known as meerschaum. Unfortunately, this sand used in making fire-resistant bricks is unconsciously extracted and destroyed. What a pity…
The beach is suitable for swimming. There are Municipal and Forest Beaches for those who want to swim in the lake. A tent can also be set up. Those who want to swim, be careful of the eddies.
Local and foreign tourists are given camel tours on the shores of Salda Lake.
The ruins of Deynus Castle can be seen at the heights of Kayadibi Stone (Kale Hill) around the lake. There is no data regarding the history of the castle. More than forty springs and plateaus on Eşeler Mountain offer suitable options for those who want to go trekking.
Niyazlar village, south of Yeşilova, is an Alevi settlement. You can visit Niyazi Baba Tomb, the trout farm at the exit of the village, and the recreation areas.
What to Eat?
There are 7 restaurants with lake views around Salda Lake. The menu of the restaurants mainly focuses on trout or roasted shepherd’s fish.
