
Ingredients
- 500 g tail fat
- 1 egg
- 500 g tallow
- Half pack of margarine
- 2 cups sunflower oil
- 500 g sugar cubes
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- As much flour as needed
- Half a cup of peeled almonds
How It Is Made
Sherbet is made by adding water to sugar cubes. On the other hand, tail fat and tallow are melted separately and filtered, then oil and margarine are added and all are mixed. Then, the cooled sherbet is added to the oil mixture and mixed by hand until it turns white. Baking powder, egg and flour are added to the resulting oil and sherbet mixture and kneaded until a soft dough is obtained. Take palm-sized pieces from the prepared dough, compress them by hand, and shape them into cookies. The cookies placed on the tray are decorated with peeled almonds. Bake in the oven preheated to 200 degrees for 30 minutes. Gurabiye is made by the girl’s house for engagements, individually packaged in colored gelatins, placed in a basket and sent to the boy’s house. The boy’s house distributes these cookies to his relatives and neighbors. Gurabiye’s dough is quite difficult to make. According to the belief in Afyonkarahisar, if the dough maintains its consistency and is cooked without falling apart, the marriage will be happy.
