Ayvalik – Balikesir / Turkey

Ayvalık Plyosen – the end of the third time and the fourth time beginning in Quaternen – was established on the area formed as a result of the collapse of the piece named Egeid. During these periods, the islands group (22 islands) in front of Ayvalık was called “Hekatonnesoi”. This name comes from Apollo, the chief god of the city of Nesos. According to the researches, there were Greek colonies in the islands group in front of Ayvalık and Ayvalık was moved to where it is today.

In his book, Strabo showed the environment as the settlement of Lelegs, Pelasgs and Carians. When the Carians had to migrate from their regions, they had to migrate to Anatolia and settled in Ayvalık and its surrounding islands.

The Strabo claim is strengthened by the fact that the nations mentioned in the name of the country are living with maritime and piracy, the amount of trees suitable for shipbuilding in the region and the abundance of metals such as copper and lead in the region.

In addition, Aiol remains were found. According to this view, İ.Ö. In 1500, people from Greece established a city on Anatolian beaches and islands. This tribe was called Aiol. They founded 12 cities from Çanakkale to Gediz, including Lesbos.

One of these 12 cities was established on the east coast of Cunda Island. And this city has managed to survive until the date Alexander the Great captured Anatolia.
Doğan Aka, on the other hand, wrote in his book titled “Ayvalık Economic Geography” that the city was established between 1430 and 1440 for military purposes.
