Sometimes we cannot notice the beauty right under our noses for years. Just like Bafa Lake on the Söke-Milas highway… On this way to Bodrum, we pass by the lake every time, but we never wonder about its surroundings. Do not miss the meeting point of history and nature this time.

Bafa Lake is located in Söke Plain, within the borders of Milas District. If we say that this region is one of the richest places in Turkey in terms of archaeological values, we would briefly summarize the value of the lake. Söke Plain was the sea 2000 years ago; There was a big gulf here. When the alluvium brought by the Büyük Menderes River filled the bay, it became a plain. Today’s Lake Bafa is in between as a piece of the sea. It may sound like a geography lesson, but the geography of this place is worth talking about.
There are three small islands on the lake. Monasteries and churches were established here long ago. The oldest is “Yediler Monastery”. In addition to the historical ruins, herons, pelicans, cormorants and ducks immediately catch your attention. Birds complement the natural richness of the lake surrounded by olive trees. Many boats on the beach are waiting for their passengers for sightseeing. It is possible to take a tour of the island with the boats working in dolmuş. There is also a swimming break during this enjoyable tour. But the most enjoyable moments are the hours when you watch the redness hitting the sky after the sunset changes the color of the lake.
