Babakale, the last castle of the Ottoman period, where the sun sets in the sea with a very different view throughout the year, is also a paradise for seafood.
The history of the fishing village, which smells of history, dates back to 1723. Established on this date, Babakale has beauties that make you travel back to time with its magnificent castle bearing the traces of the period, ancient waterways, mosque, bath, fountain and grand plane.
Babakale in history
One day, at this extreme point, where the Ottoman navy passed, and one of the haunts of pirates, 3rd Ahmet took refuge in the village in the region due to bad weather conditions while returning from sea voyages. The people ran around saying, “Our Sultan has come,” and surrounded them. They said that they were tired of the pirate attacks and burned to their side.
When the Sultan gave instructions to his vizier İbrahim Pasha, he transferred this duty to Kaymak Mustafa Pasha, the Commander of the Naval Forces. In the edict issued, it was promised that prisoners from all four corners of the country would be released after their work at Babakale.
