Bafa Lake – Mugla – Milas / Turkey


The lake tour stretches from the islands to the ancient city of Heraklia. You can also reach the city, which is located on the shore of the lake, on the southern foothills of the Beşparmak Mountains, by returning from Bafa Town and by a 9-kilometer dirt road. This journey is very enjoyable because the interesting shapes of the surrounding rocks challenge your imagination along the way. Your eyes search and find a different shape on each rock… The road first takes you to Kapıkırı Village. Before entering the village, a road goes down to the beach. Introducing Heraklia, a treasure trove of history with its ancient structures!
The history of Heraklia BC. It dates back to the 7th century. The city, which shined during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, was enriched by sea trade. During the Byzantine period, it became a bishopric center.


Built on a rocky and rugged land, the city is surrounded by 6.5-meter-high walls and 65 towers. The stonework, which is almost perfectly smooth, is noticed even today.
The Temple of Athena in the city is one of the lucky structures that survived until today. There is only one floor left from the Agora, which was built as two floors. Instead of passing by, you can spend your whole holiday by the lake. When you are bored, it is also possible to make day trips. Be sure to see the Gümüşkesen Tomb Monument in Milas, the ancient city of Labranda known for its drinking water, Didim, Milet and Lasos.
Just visiting Milas takes a day. Streets, houses and inns provide striking beauties with their historical texture. Famous Milas carpets are also worth seeing.
