Bergama – Izmir / Turkey 2

Gifts

Bergama Carpets are the first to be noticed in shops selling tourist souvenirs such as the Bergama bazaar and various copper pots, sinis, rugs, textiles such as saddlebags, and iron irons of old times used for decorative flower pots. For Bergama Carpets, which came to life in the paintings of European painters such as Holbein and Lotto in the 16th century and made their name known to the world, the characteristic that distinguishes Bergama Carpet from Anatolian Carpets is the evil eye. It is said that the carpet weaver, while weaving his carpet, took a piece from his ball and sewed it on one side of the original rug part of the carpet so that a visitor who came suddenly would not touch the evil eye. The reason for this is the life, longing, or love of the weavers, who are usually young girls, to some extent.
