Acropolis

The Acropolis, located on the hill with the most dominant view of Bergama, has been excavated since 1878. The most important structure of the Acropolis, which rises among the walls surrounding it, is the Altar of Zeus, which is now taken to the Berlin Pergamon Museum. The location of the Zeus Altar, built by Eumeles II in memory of the victory over the Galatians, is watched with interest by tourists. On the slope facing the west, there is the only theater of the ancient age with a capacity of 10 thousand people with a portable stage. They built the stage building of the theater in wood not to block the road to the Dionysus temple behind the Acropolis theater, which is the steepest theater in the world, and at the same time not to obstruct the view of the temple.
