
Ingredients
- 1 piece of bread dough (prepared for Afyon bread)
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tea glass of poppy seeds
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Half a pack of margarine-oil mixture
How It Is Made
The dough prepared as described in the Afyon bread recipe is kneaded again by adding flour mixed with baking soda. It is flattened to approximately one finger thick. Poppy seeds mixed with oil are spread on it. The dough is divided into 5-6 pieces lengthwise and widthwise, the pieces are stacked on top of each other and gathered by rubbing by hand. It is flattened by pressing it with the palms and the oil-poppy seed mixture is applied on it. Place it on a lightly floured tray and press the dough with the tip of a fork or knife. Bake in the oven at 220-240 degrees for 40 minutes. is cooked.
Note: Afyon Övmesi is also called Afyon Öğmesi. Övme is a pastry prepared for breakfast or as a treat. It can be made with poppy seed or without adding poppy seed. In Afyonkarahisar, people bake Afyon Bread (home bread) monthly in neighborhood bakeries to meet their bread needs, and in the same bakery, they make different and delicious foods such as poppy seed pita, öğme and white pita with the leftover bread dough.
