Archaeologists in China found an 800-year-old turtle-shaped tomb. The turtle-shaped tomb is very well preserved, according to researchers. First impressions are that the tomb is 800 years old and that the remains inside may belong to several generations who lived in those ages. The grave was accidentally found by someone who was laying the foundation for his house in Shangzhuang village, Shanxi province.

Scientists think that this tomb, which is about four meters high and has an octagonal burial chamber, belongs to the Jin dynasty between 1115 and 1234. The tomb also has five chambers, cleverly placed in the north, northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast directions of the octagon. With an extra chamber and hexagonal design, the tomb resembles a turtle from above.

Inside the chamber there are 21 brick carvings, three of which are placed at the corners of the walls. The architectural design and carvings support the folk tale known as the Filial Sons. Archaeologists who examined the tomb and the ruins stated that, based on the clues they obtained, the tomb was shared by several generations.

Archaeologists continue to study the tomb to learn more. The information obtained from the tomb may shed light on the history of the Jin dynasty. In this way, some of the historical gaps caused by the lack of sufficient documentation and the loss of historical materials can be filled. The discovery of the tomb gave rise to the idea that there may be many ruins of historical importance under the soil in the region.
