Scientists from the USA have developed powder drugs that stop the progression of 2,400 genetic diseases, including muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and hemophilia, and provide recovery.
The drug, called PTC124, was developed against diseases that prevent the body from producing certain proteins by causing a genetic mutation. Doctor Lee Sweeney from the University of Pennsylvania noted that the drug improved between 5 and 70 percent in the experiments.
The medicine, which is prepared in the form of white powder and adds vanilla flavor, is drunk by adding it to water, milk or fruit juice or to meals. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), muscle weakness in the disease, ties in the hands, legs, throat area or tongue and progresses to the whole body.
World-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking and former football player Sedat Balkan are just some of the ALS patients.
