Dishwasher Leaks Water: Door Gasket and Solutions

Dishwasher Leaks Water: Door Gasket and Solutions
Water leaking from the bottom or door of the dishwasher is a malfunction that can both damage your kitchen floor and threaten electrical safety. The source of water leakage is often a worn door gasket, a loose hose connection or excessive foam. In this article, we tell you how to find where the leak came from and how to intervene at home. 1.

Inspect Door Gasket
The rubber seal surrounding the door prevents water from leaking out while the machine is running. Over time, this gasket hardens, cracks or accumulates oil-lime on it and starts to leak. Wipe the gasket with a damp cloth, remove any debris from it and check its elasticity by pressing it with your hand. A hardened, torn or dislodged gasket will not retain water; in this case, the gasket must be replaced with a new one.

The spare gasket is easily installed by pressing into the groove in most models. 2. Ensure Cover Is Fully Closed
Sometimes the problem is not in the gasket, but in the fact that the cover does not fit properly. Loosening of the hinges or non-adjustment of the lid lock causes the lid to remain slightly open and water to drip from there. Make sure you hear a clear “click” when closing the lid. A long piece overflowing from baskets or a misplaced lid can also prevent closure.

3. Check Water Inlet and Drain Hoses
Water from the bottom of the machine often comes from loosened hose clamps or a cracked hose. Pull the machine forward and place a dry paper towel under it and run a short program to watch exactly where the water is dripping from. Tighten the tap connection of the water inlet hose and the flush connection of the drain hose by hand.

Cracked hoses need to be replaced. 4. Excessive Foam and Wrong Detergent
Surprisingly, a significant proportion of leaks are caused by the wrong detergent. Using hand washing detergent or excessive amounts of product creates uncontrollable foam inside the machine and this foam protrudes from the door edges. Only use tablets or powder made for the dishwasher and do not exceed the recommended dose.

If you accidentally put in too much detergent, stop the machine and clean the foam. When to Apply to the Service? If you check the gasket, the cover, the hoses and fix the detergent, but the water leakage continues, the problem may be in the bottom boat of the machine, the circulation pump seal or the internal water level sensor.

Since the intervention in these internal components requires expertise and poses a risk when electricity and water are together, it is the safest option to contact the authorized service at this stage.
