Hugh Jackman, who came to Istanbul for the ‘An Evening with Hugh Jackman’ show, said, “My father always tells me, ‘You are Turkish, you are considered Turkish.’ That’s why I love Turkish coffee.”
‘I AM VERY HAPPY TO BE BACK TO TURKEY’
Stating that he came to Istanbul for the second time, Jackman said, “The last time I came, it was very different from today’s situation. We came here with my wife after our wedding. We visited Istanbul and went to Fethiye. We took an 18-hour bus ride and had a great time. I am very, very happy to be back in Turkey.” he said.
Stating that he has a historical connection with Istanbul, Jackman said, “Because my great-grandfather lived in Istanbul. I think he was born in Chios. I’m not sure, but he worked in a bank in Istanbul. And my father actually came to Turkey many times. He always says to me, ‘You are Turkish, you are considered Turkish.’ Maybe that’s why I love Turkish coffee.”
“There is nothing that makes me happier than waking up in the morning and drinking a cup of Turkish coffee.” he said.
Jackman also mentioned that he read books about the Ottoman Empire and Ataturk and said, “I read a thick book about the Ottoman Empire, about Ataturk. Because I had a great passion for history. For example, about the Ottoman Empire, I was frankly a little embarrassed to have such little knowledge about an empire that reigned so much.”
Jackman continued his words as follows: “When you look at it, we are talking about two different continents in Istanbul. Asia and Europe… It is a city that combines two continents. I want to see Topkapi, Hagia Sophia, and the Blue Mosque again. If I have the opportunity, I want to taste Turkish food. I never forget it. The food is amazing, there are extraordinary people. I may not have enough time, but my daughter has planned everything for this week, by the way.
Some members of my family say that some of my great-grandfathers were Turkish and some were Greek. But I say Turkish when I am here today. “I say Turkish, but we are not one hundred percent sure.”
