History of Kırkpınar
In 1870, Kırkpınar village was founded by people coming from the Caucasus, although it was an unused land, because it was mountainous and lakeside. The reason for this was that the place was similar to the old neighborhoods, and the climate and pastures were suitable for raising special animals, which contributed to their settlement on the Old Baghdad road.
The reason for their migration from the Caucasus was the result of the tension and wars between them and the Russians. The name of the village was first mentioned with the names of the dynasties to which the people belonged. As the village population increased over time, a name that everyone could understand was needed.
The district governor of Adapazarı at the time named the village Kırkpınar Şadiye, taking into account the abundance of springs in the area where the village was established, Şadiye, which was the name of the first girl born in the village, and the number 40, which is considered lucky by the Turks.
During the changes made during the Republic period, the name Şadiye was abolished and its current name “KIRKPINAR” remained as the official name. The number of households in the village, which initially consisted of 40 households, increased over time as people from Georgia, the Eastern Black Sea region and surrounding villages came and settled there. There are no historical monuments other than the old Baghdad caravan route that reflect the history of the surrounding area. The War of Independence has an impact on the environment.
The municipality organization was established in our village in 1971 and was transformed into a town administration by being formed from the Mayor’s Office and three neighborhood headmen.

Places to Visit in Kırkpınar
We are going to a lakeside paradise located just an hour away from the giant metropolis Istanbul, the city that never sleeps and grumbles day and night with a population of over 10 million!
Our direction is Sakarya, our destination is the Kırkpınar town on the shores of Sapanca Lake, which is a real paradise with its climatic air and incredibly beautiful green tones. The town, surrounded by unique plant tissue, offers rest and healing to its guests. Located within the borders of Kırkpınar, the beautiful houses that constitute the villas and sites with aesthetic and exemplary features display architectural beauties worth seeing.
Recreational facilities serving on the shores of Sapanca Lake, which supplies Adapazarı’s drinking water, instantly relieve the stress and electricity accumulated on visitors.
Those who are relieved of all fatigue in a short time, get rid of the tiredness of the week with the effect of fresh air and eye-pleasing color tones and are literally reborn, find the opportunity to do lake activities and enjoy the weekend to the fullest in the enviable beautiful gardens seen in the movies.
The place, where the historical Silk Road passed through the middle of Kırkpınar and which is now known as Bağdat Street, is used as a bicycle and walking path with cafes, gardens and aesthetic buildings.
The area between Maşukiye, Sapanca and Pamukova has a climatic environment that is rarely seen in the world and is unique in Turkey. What makes this region different is the suitability of the humidity and oxygen in the air for plants, the effect of Sapanca Lake, and the low salt content in the ground soil. Plants that reach ideal conditions have different shades of green, larger and healthier appearance compared to the leaves of the same species.
The plant produces color and then production begins. Even plants brought from other regions that are about to dry out come to life again here. Those who discovered the positive aspects of the region, which fascinates the plants so much, also increase the attractiveness of Kırkpınar with the facilities they established. Natural Park BotanicalHobby garden, which was previously established for the purpose of producing plants, is a project of civil engineer and landscape architect Kenan Hürel.
The businessman, who continues his activities on 7000 decares with patience and determination, states that his aim is to grow the healthiest, hardest growing, most aesthetic decorative plants, while introducing and instilling a conscious love of plants and landscaping and offering recreation to the guests in the section reserved for guests.
Those who come to the club garden wander among the trained trees (!) and outdoor plants that have a decorative appearance with a lush green grass ground, they can see the animal friends of various kinds in various corners, while the ice-blue-eyed Siberian wolves, baby ducks, peacocks, geese and game birds living in their reserved section, weather permitting, color the environment, those who settle at the tables set in the tree-shaded areas start chatting by having their breakfast from the open buffet.
Indoor or outdoor venues are chosen for lunch or dinner, depending on preferences. Guests sip their after-dinner coffee and other drinks, relax in the most comfortable environment possible, on large floor pillows, and in a pergola on wooden poles.
Those who wish can purchase indoor and outdoor plants, and there is also a ceramic gallery at the entrance of Naturel Park Botanical for those who want to remember their relatives by purchasing ceramic-type decorative ornaments.
A short journey to the World of Plants: A different treatment is applied to plants in Naturel Park Botanical, where dot plants are grown in particular. A long and meticulous effort is made to grow high-quality plants with large forms in order to beautify the landscape. Among the rare plants of this type, there are coniferous and shrub varieties that do not shed their leaves in winter, such as berberis, yucca, fire thistle, poteras, Tafla, liküstnü.
In the process of producing and growing quality plants, the plants are in containers in a difficult system. Known soil for plants living in peat, heather soil, pumice stone, and osmocote fertilizer is not used. During drip irrigation, side branches are constantly sheared so that the stem of the plant is not visible, it is full, and the leaf structure surrounds the main stem homogeneously.
In this way, the plant, which cannot be dyed, gives all its strength to the trunk integrity and leafiness is achieved. Kenan Hürel, who is planning to export plants abroad in the plant fair area that will be established on 400 decares in three years, states that it is easy to grow plants on the ground, planting can be done in January, and there is a risk of the plant’s survival, whereas plants grown in containers can be produced every season and the risk of survival is 100 percent.
Plants in scissored form are priced according to their size and form. In the botanical park, pines live together with plants such as rhododendrons, laurels, medlars, black nuts and ramberries, as if to refute the saying that there are no plants under the pine tree. Another feature of the park that cannot be overlooked is the symmetrical, perspective arrangement of the thousands of plants in the containers, extending to infinity, and their neat and clean appearance.
Sapanca Kırkpınar activitiesSapanca Lake is suitable for swimming, so there is a beach on the national track of the Municipality and the Rowing Federation. Athletes hold rowing races, visitors row with rented boats, surf, sail, pedalo, jet ski, water ski, and motorbike.
Hunting enthusiasts can catch carp with corn on their hooks, pike with spoon hooks, catfish with natural bait, roach, finfish and freshwater mackerel with bread in the lake. They park their cars in the cafes on the shores of the lake and relax by listening to the silence. The region has interesting walking areas among its clean air and dense vegetation.
10 and 50 km flat or mountain trails offer ideal environments for group walks, where trees embrace each other from time to time and make the sky invisible. During the walk, enthusiasts can catch natural trout in the stream with a fishing rod. The natural spring waters in the region attract attention with their drinkability and lightness.
Spring waters such as Kristal, Sırma and Mahmudiye coming down from the Soğucak Plateau corridor of Samandağ peak can be filled into the container you bring with you. Especially the water coming from Mahmudiye Village is addictive with its special taste. It is said that those who get used to this water cannot drink any other water.
(For those who want to fill water for a fee, the filling source can be found near Küçük Ev Restaurant.) Kastancı Plum, which comes out in June, is as popular as the famous walnut of the region for its juiciness and taste.
The fruit known as persimmon can be seen on its branch for 3 to 4 months. For those who want to shop, there are two stands at the entrance of Dedeman Lake House.
Among Yılmaz Bey’s souvenirs, handcrafted local decorative covers and home accessories sold for prices of 5-15 million TL are exhibited, while Abdurrahman Çetinkaya Kars honey, Edremit extra virgin oils, homemade jams, vinegar and butter, and Isli cheese cooked in a pan or on a barbecue can be purchased. Kırkpınar, which is at its best in spring and autumn, is on the opposite side of the lake between 15.00-20.00. The light breeze coming from Eşme does not cause any mosquito problems.
In this way, you can easily sit in the cafes and restaurants on Lake Street in the summer.
There are no villages in Samandağ, which is supported by the Kırkpınar town of Sakarya. In the town with the most green areas, all festivities are held in Soğucak plateau. Even people from abroad come to cultural activities across Türkiye under the name of Poetry Evenings.
At the Soğucak Plateau Festival held in the second week of July, picnics are held, horse races, Karakucak wrestling, folklore and concerts are held. While the lakeside is used as a protection area between 0 – 2000 m, nothing can be done between 0 – 300 m. In the region where it is not allowed to build houses more than two or three floors, development permission is given between 5 and 25 percent. Many houses and duplex and triplex villas are sold within the site.
