Ortahisar – Nevşehir / Turkey

Ortahisar is a town of Nevşehir located on the Nevşehir-Ürgüp highway, 6 kilometers from Ürgüp.

The most prominent structure is Ortahisar Castle, which was carved in Etiler period, with an altitude of 1200 m and a height of 86 m. The fort has been used for both strategic and residential purposes. There are characteristic examples of civil architecture of Cappadocia on the foothills of the castle. In addition, potatoes and apples grown in the region, oranges and lemons brought from the Mediterranean Region are stored in rock warehouses carved into the slopes of almost all valleys.

It is located 6 km west of Ürgüp and near the Nevşehir road. It became a town in 1916. It is an interesting town with its natural beauties and historical features. The valley in which Kavak, İbrahim Pasha and Ortahisar are located reaches Damsa stream valley. The relatives of Damsa Stream of this valley take the name Üzengi Stream. It is a place with natural features of drinking water and mineral water. In the middle of Ortahisar there is a castle with a giant fairy chimney. Foreigners also call this castle as castle. It is hollow. There are rooms and halls. Although it is difficult to climb to the top, the beauty of the environment seen from there is the expense of fatigue. There are also many churches around the town. Talaş Stream attracts a lot of attention in this respect. In the middle fortress, the houses are stepped up to the castle. In recent years, they built colorful cut-overflow houses in accordance with the new natural characteristic structure on the plain towards Nevşehir road. The rocks in the region have been designated as a protected area. It consists of two neighborhoods named Waste and Cedit. Natural beauties, old historical buildings, interesting citrus warehouses and being close to Göreme rock churches make it popular among tourists. There are very interesting monasteries and churches in Ortahisar valleys. These are Sarıca Church, Cambazlı Church, Tavşanlı Church, Balkan Stream Churches, Hallaç Dere Monastery.

Ortahisar people earn their living from viniculture. It is also made in cattle breeding. Ortahisar Castle was used both strategically and for settlement purposes. There are characteristic examples of civil architecture of Cappadocia on the skirts of the castle. In addition, potatoes and apples grown in the region, oranges and lemons brought from the Mediterranean Region are stored in the cold stores carved into the slopes of almost all valleys.
