Okinawa’s beaches are the reason many travellers come in the first place. Warm, clear water and powder-soft sand stretch along the main island and out to the surrounding islets, with snorkelling and diving among the best in Japan.
Beaches Near Naha
If your time is short, the resort beaches along the west coast around Onna and the Manza area offer turquoise water within easy reach of the city. Naminoue Beach, right in Naha, is handy for a quick swim, though the offshore islets give clearer water.

Island Day Trips
From Naha’s Tomari Port, fast ferries reach the Kerama Islands, famous for their vivid coral and sea turtles. Closer still, the bridge-linked islands south of the airport make an easy half-day drive with quiet beaches and ocean viewpoints.
Practical Tips
The official swimming season runs roughly from April to October. Reef shoes, sun protection and a rash guard go a long way, and renting a car opens up the smaller, less crowded coves that buses do not reach.
The sea is Okinawa’s soul. Whether you snorkel the Keramas or simply watch the sunset from the shore, the island’s beaches leave the strongest memories.
