Assoc. Dr. Mete Atatüre is only 40 years old… The scientific world is talking about Atatüre’s historical success these days. “Noise measurement of light level”, which is considered impossible to measure, was developed by Assoc. Prof. who works on quantum physics at Cambridge University, one of the most important and successful universities in the world. Dr. It was measured successfully by Mete Atatüre. This great success of Atatüre was announced by leading science magazines.

Assoc. Prof. has been working on quantum physics for years. Dr. Mete Atatüre achieved a historical success by successfully performing the ‘noise measurement of light level’, which was considered impossible to measure. Atatüre carried out his measurement using a method called “compressing light” and in the meantime obtained a super atom that is 100 times stronger than the atom.

“It had been studied under appropriate experimental conditions for 35 years.”
“In order to observe this very small but very fundamental quantum effect, we first used a semiconductor nanomaterial, which we call a quantum dot, instead of a natural atom. Thus, we obtained a ‘super atom’ whose interaction with light is 100 times greater than a single atom. We thus clearly revealed this quantum noise, which has not been observed for years.

In other words, we have proven that the basic noise level, which we think is always present even in complete darkness, can be reduced by adding a very small amount of light to that darkness. Noise measurement under experimental conditions where this effect could exist had not been achieved despite many attempts for 35 years. “The main reason for this was that the light level at which the effect existed was too low for noise measurement.”
From the subject he disliked the most in middle school to historical success!

Mete Atatüre was born in 1975. Atatüre, the child of a politician father and a painter mother, attended primary school in four different schools due to his father’s profession. Atatüre, who grew up in conversations focused on science and art, moved to America with his family when he entered secondary school. Atatüre, who studied secondary school in America, was the subject he could not warm up to in those years, Physics.

Thanks to a book gifted by his Physics teacher, who was aware of this situation, he became interested in quantum, known as the wonderland of the Physics world. Returning to Turkey for high school education, Atatüre’s goal was to become a physicist. On the way to his goal, he chose Bilkent University Physics Department. Atatüre graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Physics in 1998.

He came to the University of Cambridge in 2007, where he was head of the Atomic, Mesoscopic and Optical Physics Group. At this university, where he received the title of associate professor, he worked on developing new technologies with his team of fifteen people.
