Among the oldest peoples of the Middle East are the Assyrians, an indigenous Christian nation of Mesopotamia whose memory reaches back to the empires of Nineveh and Nimrud. For nearly three thousand years, through the rise and fall of Persians, Greeks, Romans, and caliphs, they have kept their language, their faith, and their name in the lands where civilisation itself began.
