In the west of Köyceğiz Lake, in the east of the Ölemez Mountain, within the borders of Sultaniye Village, there are many thermal springs along the coast. As a result of the researches and examinations made by the experts by the Ministry of Tourism and Health, many hot springs and drinking sources have been determined. The most important of these thermal springs and those operated for health purposes are Hasan Çavuş Hot Spring and Kokar Girme.
The history of Sultaniye Hot Springs dates back to very old times. It has been operated as a healing place since the centuries before Christ. It was offered to the public in the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman and Seljuk periods. During the Roman period, it was a hospital developed enough to serve 400 patients at the same time. According to the sources, it was written at the entrance of the hospital that “death cannot enter here in the name of the gods.” Ölemez Mountain is also named after the hot springs.
