Akcakoca – Duzce / Turkey

Historical Genoese Castle

Thanks to the beaches in the West and East of the castle and the tea garden around the castle, the castle never feels lonely. The castle, which has been flooded with visitors throughout the year due to its location, was built on a cape with rubble stones. Although there is no definitive evidence, the castle, which is said to be built by the Genoese, is used as a recreation area today. There are some who say that it was actually from the Seljuks, repaired by the Ottomans and used against the Genoese. There is a tower next to the entrance door and a water cistern in the castle, whose sea side walls have been destroyed. The inside of the castle, which does not have much visible part as a result of the trees around it growing a little longer each year, is a kind of viewing terrace that can see the sea and beaches from above. Tables placed on various levels are reached by small paths. In the heat of the summer months, you can cool off with the cool air, the breeze from the sea and the winds of the sea and have a picnic. There is also a warning sign at the entrance of the castle stating that the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited! Visitors and picnickers, who park their vehicles in the large parking lot at the foot of the castle, can enjoy the atmosphere of the castle in peace all day long.
There are two small coves and sandy beaches to the right and left of the castle. Named as “Yalıyarlar”, the beach draws attention with its rock formation arranged in layers like baklava. It is also called seal rocks because of the caves located along the coast. The other beach is in demand with its longer beach and units that will meet the needs of those who come to the beach. While the beaches of Martı, Tersane, Bulaklı, Köy Hizmetleri, Değirmenağzı, Çınaraltı and Çuhallı Carsi host more guests in Akçakoca, which has a 30 km coastline, the preference of those looking for a quiet place is Çayağzı, Kumpınar, Akaya Village, Edilli Ağzı Beach, Melenağzı Village Beach, Karaburun Village and Beaches.
