Who Comes Here
Christian pilgrims of every tradition come to Nazareth to pray at the Grotto of the Annunciation and to walk in the town where Jesus grew up. Many include it as part of a wider Galilee pilgrimage, taking in the Sea of Galilee, Cana and other Gospel sites nearby.
When to Visit
Spring and autumn bring the most pleasant weather. Christmas and Easter are the most atmospheric but busiest times, with processions filling the old town. For a quieter visit, come on an ordinary weekday and arrive at the basilica soon after it opens. Modest dress is required in the churches.
Getting There
Nazareth lies in the Lower Galilee of northern Israel, roughly midway between the coast and the Sea of Galilee. It is reached by bus or car from Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem; many pilgrims visit as part of a Galilee tour. Within the town, the basilica, Mary’s Well and old town are explored on foot. As always in the region, check current travel advice before you go.
